York Vikings Prem team travelled to Huddersfield to play last years league winners and playoff finalists Rawthorpe Cobras. After starting the season with a good win, the Vikings were looking to make it 2 out of 2.
Dimitris Armelinos and Ross Paterson made their Vikings debut, by starting the game, and thus became the 69th and 70th player to wear a Vikings uniform since 2019. Both made their first baskets for the team in the first quarter. Both teams played a strong first quarter. However, Vikings managed to take a narrow lead, with the the score being 22 - 20.
The second quarter was a continuation of the same with both teams exchanging baskets. Vikings however managed to win this quarter by 2 points as well giving the York team a 4 point lead going into half time. Half time score 41 - 37 for Vikings.
With the start of the second half both teams kept hitting their shots, with both teams making 4 three pointers each. Sam Thornhill called up from the D2 team, made his first basket for the Prem team, by hitting a three, having now made a 3 in all 4 of his appearances with Vikings. The quarter just like the previous quarters was close, and once again the team from York took it by a fine margin, winning the quarter 23-22.
With the Vikings now leading with 5 points going into the last quarter, Cobras increased their defensive pressure holding the York team to 16 points in the last quarter. However, the Vikings responded with an even more stingy defence and only allowed the Huddersfield team to score 13 points, making the final score 80 - 72 Vikings. This was the Vikings first win against Rawthorpe Cobras since November 2019.
Notes: Pat Mackle continued his torrid start with Vikings, scoring 20+ points in each of his first two games. Pat had a new personal season high with 5 three pointers. Andy Capes matched Pat Mackle scoring output. Every player that played managed to score.
