York Vikings Basketball Club
Leeds League Premiership:
Leeds Demons 109
- York Vikings 55
28 November 2024
Vikings travelled to Leeds to face the Demons with a depleted team, with numerous players injured across the club, illness and work commitments. Only 7 players were available, with 3 of the players being Team 1 regulars.
The Vikings started the game off, matching the Demons scoring for the first couple of minutes, even going ahead 7 - 6. However, the York team's lack of size showed on the defensive end, with the home team being able to attack the basket and get second chance opportunities. Subsequently, the Demons went on a 18 - 1 run to finish the quarter.
Coming out for the second quarter the Vikings made some defensive adjustments and offensively the team started to hit a few big shots to kind of match the Demons for the first 5 minutes (13 - 9 for the Leeds team, which hit a couple of big 3s to stay ahead). However, the home team adjusted their offence and continued hitting the three, in particular Leeds guard Shilliday (who throughout the game score 10 three pointers). This led to the Demons dominating the rest of the quarter winning it 29 - 12 and going into half time with a 53 - 20 score.
Vikings once again tried to adjust on the defensive end in an effort to secure the rebounds. Despite a strong effort, Leeds attacked and moved the ball well, resulting in hitting a number of threes. Additionally, they won numerous fouls, allowing them to get to the line continuously. Dimitrios Armelinos put in a strong quarter scoring 12 points, but had little help on the offensive end. Demons took the third quarter 29 - 16.
Despite the big gap, the Vikings continued to fight and with Ross Paterson and Sam Thornhill stepping up offensively in the fourth managed to get a more respectable quarter. However, Demons kept going strong and took a big win.
Game MVP: Dimitris Armelinos
Notes: Ross Paterson, had personal career highs with 14 points and 2 three pointers. This was also his second consecutive game with double figure points and hitting at least 1 three pointer. Dimitris Armelinos matched his career high and now has three consecutive games having scored double figures and having hit at least 1 three pointer.
