Leeds League Division 2:
York Vikings 37
- Harrogate Raiders (1) 48
10 October 2024

Vikings D2 team hosted the Raiders of Harrogate for their third game of the season. Just like the Vikings, the Raiders had some great additions to the their team, including former Viking Sam Dobson.
The Raiders employed a 2-3 zone straight from the beginning, which led to the Vikings struggling to score in the paint. Raiders took good care of the ball on offence, and as a result limiting Vikings fast break opportunities. With Vikings players not able to adjust, Raiders went on a 10 - 2 run for the first 7 minutes. The low scoring still continued, with the quarter ending 12 - 6 for the Harrogate team.
A coaching adjustment and player rotation led to a good start for the Vikings in the second quarter. The York players played patient offence, moving the ball well on the perimeter and executing. The adjustment paid dividends and the Vikings managed to take the lead by the 5th minute of the second quarter, making it a 18 - 14 score. A time out by Harrogate Raiders, managed through the home team off their game again. While the Raiders kept playing their game, the Vikings stopped moving the ball and unsuccessfully started attacking the rim, leading to Raiders closing out the quarter on a 11 - 3 run. This meant Harrogate winning at half time 25 - 21.
Despite the half time break, the Raiders maintained their momentum and Vikings could not find their offensive footing, leading to a strong quarter by Harrogate and a 3rd quarter score of 17 - 11, giving visiting team a 10 point lead entering the last quarter.
The last quarter showed great improvement on defence, limiting the Raiders to 6 points. On offence the Vikings managed to have several possessions of good ball movement, similar to the beginning of the 2nd quarter. However, the York players struggled to hit any shots and only scored 5 points. As a result, Raiders took the W.
Notes: Matt Theakstone, the player with the most games played for Vikings, scored his first ever three in an official game.
