- York Vikings 72
6 October 2024

York Vikings D2 team travelled on Sunday evening to Dewsbury to play the Spen Valley Vipers Black team. After a dominant win in the first game of the season Vikings were looking to build on it and start a win streak.
Vikings made a good start in the first quarter, taking a 20 - 14 lead. Sam Thornhill, Vikings youngest player, and in only his second game, made a major impact on the offensive end scoring 9 points in the quarter. Asher Lynch made his debut in a Vikings kit and got on the scoreboard early in the first quarter as well.
The second quarter continued very much in the same fashion as the first quarter. Sam Thornhill continued with his scoring and helped with 7 points in the quarter. The second quarter ended 18 - 12 in favour of Vikings, giving the away team a 12 point lead going into half time.
Despite the York team usually struggling in the 3rd quarter, this time around the Vikings came out even stronger. Behind a strong defence and following Anthony Holdsworth 8 points, Vikings went on to win the quarter 23 - 13 to make the total score 61 - 42 going into the last quarter.
Spen Valley trying to claw back the score, pressured the ball throughout the last quarter, forcing the Vikings into some bad decisions. However, overall the team kept the composure and Asher Lynch in his debut game helped close out the game with 7 points in the last quarter.
Notes: All 9 Vikings players scored in this game indicating some excellent team work. The team also had a great free throw percentage, making 78%.
Game MVP: Sam Thornhill
