Leeds League Division 2:
Leeds Lithuanians 34
- York Vikings (2) 42
17 October 2024

After last weeks disappointing loss, Vikings D2 team was looking to get back to winning ways against the Leeds Lithuanians. With Anthony Holdsworth nursing a stomach bug, Jamie Boynton made his debut as player coach for the team.
The Lithuanians of Leeds known for their physical play, also employed a 2 - 3 zone, the same type of defence the Vikings team were unable to crack last week. Additionally, the shots didn't keep falling, but the York defences held. This meant an extremely low scoring first quarter of 5 - 5.
The second quarter was much of the same with a minuscule improvement on the offensive end for both teams in the last few minutes leading to a 8 - 6 quarter for Vikings and a half time score of 13 - 11 for Vikings.
A half time decision to change to a full court press, led to the Lithuanians making several turnovers and the Vikings to go on a 6 - 0 run, before the Lithuanians called a time out. The Vikings extended there run to 9 - 0 before Lithuanians managed to score and the Vikings dropped back to an intense half court defence. Having finally taken the lid of the basket, the quarter ended 19 - 8 for the Vikings and a 32 - 19 overall score.
The Lithuanians pushed for a come back in the last quarter managing to fight through the defence and attack the basket. The York team managed to hold their composure and with a couple of strong defensive efforts at the end of the quarter managed to take the win.
Game MVP: Asher Lynch
Notes: Azaan Iyer made his debut with York Vikings, despite having a fractured wrist. He still managed to contribute defensively and help distribute the ball on offence. Matt Theakstone, after making his first ever three in a Vikings game in the last game, hit another one in this game.
