After losing the previous game, Vikings 2 were returning home and looking to get back to winning. Next opponent the Halifax Cobras.
Hussein Kahil made his season debut and Nelvin Lau managed to suit up after having suffered an ankle injury in the previous game.
Vikings started the game strong with Jacob Cosquer opening up the score for Vikings, who went on a 6 - 1 run in the first 5 minutes. Cobras started hitting some shots and managed to even up the game by the 8th minute. The home team however managed to tighten the defence and turn defence into offence and as a result go on a 10 - 0 run. First quarter score: 19 - 9.
After the break Cobras managed to adjust their offense and play harder defence from their end. The game went back and forth with the team from Halifax slightly moving ahead. Vikings poor free throw shooting (only making 3 of 11) helped Cobras as well. The away team took the second quarter 16 - 13. Half time score: 32 - 25 for Vikings.
Vikings switched to zone defence in the 2nd half, throwing the Cobras offence slightly off to begin with and allowing Vikings to start the quarter 4-0. However, once the away team adjusted they went on a 6 - 0 run to make it a 5 point game. The York team once again responded in the second part of the quarter with three 3 pointers and a number of quick baskets to go on a 14 - 7 run and go ahead by 12 points.
Having held the lead throughout the full game, Vikings went into last quarter highly confident. Halifax Cobras had other ideas and picked up their defence to a play a strong half court man defence. Vikings started making bad decisions under the pressure, while also continuing to struggle from the free throw line (1 of 6). Cobras kept clawing back a the lead. Going 8 - 0 for the first 8 minutes of the final quarter. Finally, Jonathan Wetherley put Vikings on the scoreboard for the first time in the fourth, with a free throw. Cobras managed to reduce the gap to 5, by scoring another 2 points, before Mark Strage hit the only field goal of Vikings in the quarter to make the final score and secure the win.
