Vikings firsts hosted for the first game of the year, the Yorkshire Royals.

After the long break the firsts clearly showed rust and started the game committing turnovers and taking bad shots, which in turn allowed the Royals to go on fast break after fast break. This also affected overall defence and moral. The visitors as a result went on an 8 minute 23 - 2 run. Only in the last two minutes of the game did Vikings finally manage to play their game and score 4 points. First quarter score 23 - 6.

With the Vikings moral at a low, the team from Harrogate took advantage in the beginning of the second to have a short run of 6 - 0 to go ahead by 23. In the 3rd minute of the third quarter the home team finally pulled together and showed some Viking spirit pushing ahead with a 19 - 10 run to finish the half and actually win the quarter 19 - 16. Half time score of 39 - 25.

Some early sharp shooting with 3 three pointers pushed the Royals further ahead again, but Vikings fought back and took control of the quarter, by winning it 19 - 18.

Despite the efforts the home team was still behind 13 points. Vikings kept pushing strong to put together a substantial run in the 4th, but the Royals kept matching the home teams intensity. Once again the Vikings managed to eke out a 1 point win in a quarter. However, the disastrous first quarter, meant this was too little and all the Vikings good do, is make the score more respectable.
