York Vikings Basketball Club
LBL Division 1:
Holme Valley Demons (1) 54
- York Vikings (1) 51
29 January 2026

Vikings first travelled to Holmfirth, to play the Demons of Holme Valley.
The game started of very low scoring, as both teams struggled to hit any shots. Vikings defence fared a bit better and the team from York took the first quarter 10 - 6.
In the second quarter Vikings continued to struggle to hit their shots consistently, including the 3 ball, which was key to break the zone employed by the Demons. Demons on the other hand slowly kept improving and started making their shots. As a result Demons won the quarter 16 - 9, making a half time score of 22 - 19.
With the shots now falling for Demons, the Vikings defence struggled to slow down the Demons. At the same time, the York team's shooters, continued to struggle with their shot. Charlie McNichol stepped up big to keep the Vikings in the game, scoring 8 of the Vikings 14 points in the quarter. Demons, however scored 17, building their lead to 6 points before the final quarter.
Despite the height disadvantage the York team decided to switch to a man defence. This put pressure on the Demons, allowing for the Vikings to slowly close the gap. The York team was still hindered by not consistently making shots. However, good defence pulled them back in the game and with only 20 seconds left a big three by Lloyd Bickerstaffe, gave the Vikings a 1 point lead. However, in the subsequent possession the Demons managed to get a player free and attack the basket successfully with only 8 seconds left. In the following offence though the Demons defence stood fast and managed to pressure Vikings into a bad shot with the home team securing the ball. Vikings fouled quickly, but there were only a couple of seconds left. Demons made both free throws to take a 3 point lead. Vikings only could manage a long heave, which missed.
Notes: Charlie McNichol had a Viking career best 19 points. Lloyd Bickerstaffe played his first game since November 2024, after injuring himself in a league game.
Game MVP: Charlie McNichol
